Nursing staff from abroad
More and more cases of care, but fewer and fewer places in our retirement homes and assisted living apartments. The number of carers is decreasing and the number of carers is increasing. Many family members are at a loss and don't know how to get such situations under control. In Germany alone, for example, there is a shortage of almost 17.000 nursing staff. But what should you do about it? One option that could significantly improve the situation is nursing staff from abroad.
Bringing nursing staff from our neighboring countries is nothing new, but there are still some problems that need to be solved in order to make the situation as optimal as possible and to improve the discrepancy between nursing cases and nursing staff.
According to German Health Minister Spahn, one problem is, for example, the slow recognition of certificates and degrees from doctors and nurses from abroad. This simply has to work faster to save time. In addition, the training of skilled workers simply needs to be promoted more. It is also necessary to negotiate better collective bargaining regulations for nursing staff in general in order to make the professional field more attractive again. Last but not least, there is the problem of finding skilled workers abroad. However, this problem is solved by organizations such as Caritas, which are constantly actively looking for qualified nursing staff. So this is a good place to start if you're thinking of finding carers from abroad. For example, Caritas also brought skilled workers from the Philippines to Munich, where there was a severe shortage of skilled workers. In the Philippines, on the other hand, there are enough skilled workers who cannot find work in their country.[1]
If a country manages to find nursing staff from abroad with the appropriate training, integration in the country must ultimately work better in order to guarantee perfect recruiting in the nursing sector. AGAPLESION gAG, for example, is one such organization that was created to counteract the impending shortage of skilled workers and improve international recruiting. Successful integration requires, for example, free German courses, support from mentors and a welcoming culture. It is important to rethink long-term staff and not just short-term ones. As things currently stand, we will probably be dependent on highly qualified employees from abroad in the future. You can find out more about AGAPLESION gAG here: https://www.agaplesion.de/start/
But skilled workers from abroad are not only well suited for hospitals and nursing homes. Household helpers can also make everyday life easier for many and provide enormous support to families. It is important that the relatives are aware that they also have to be in the area, as household helpers of course only have a supportive effect and cannot be available around the clock. However, it is often a cheaper and very pleasant option for patients.
But how do you find suitable staff? Here, too, it is recommended to contact Caritas, which provides great support and guarantees suitable staff.[2]
